COFFEE & KAREEM (2020)

Officer James Coffee (Ed Helms) is dating 12-year-old Kareem Manning’s mother (Taraji P. Henson). After Kareem (Terrence Little Gardenhigh) finds out he tries to hire a notorious criminal to kill Coffee which backfires enormously after witnessing the murder of another cop they are now on the run from the most ruthless drug kingpin in Detroit and are forced to put their differences aside and work together.

“THIS KID NEEDS TO BE STOPPED” were my exact thoughts quite early on in the movie, there's a line that shouldn't be crossed for the sake of humor, well they sure crossed it here. Kareem is just too much, while I know kids say nasty things sometimes this is not a movie you want your younger ones to watch and think it’s cool. How can a 12-year-old be so profane, it’s like the script was empty and the writers said to themselves “okay, lets fill it up with the nastiest things that come to mind”.

If it was sensible humor at least some of the lacklustre writing could have been forgiven but it’s really not just mediocre stupidity. Too much has been said already because this one is not really worth talking much about. For a very popular actress Taraji P. Henson has sure had more than her fair share of bad movies. Netflix really have thought this one through because it’ll not only raise eyebrows it will also annoy some.
