POPCORN-O-METER= 7.1
An entertaining and befitting sequel. The 2018 prequel ‘The
Debt Collector’ amassed quite a number of fans because of it was action-packed
and full of humour. Well, the sequel isn’t lagging behind either. A lot of times
grade B movies like these after doing well the first time tend to disappoint on
the second time of asking but this one is definitely an exception as it
maintains the quality of its predecessor.
This movie isn’t winning any awards for storytelling and to
be fair the prequel didn’t focus on that either. The Director of both movies
Jessie V. Johnson has always had one goal in mind while making both movies, which
was keeping the viewers interested with guns and beatdowns while blending all
that action with very humourous interactions especially between the two main
characters. Movies like this one are made for you to just kick back and enjoy
for the moment and forget about.
In terms of actor performances, if you’ve seen the prequel
of this movie you know how good the chemistry between Scott Adkins and Louis
Mandylor was but if you haven’t then take my word for it, both actors were
magnificent. If you haven’t seen the prequel then I urge you to, not that it’s
a must you see it to understand this movie but it makes this one a bit more
enjoyable. Other members of the cast like Marina Sirtis, Ski Carr and so on
also do very well.
If I had given the rating solely on how I
enjoyed it then the rating would be considerably higher but that isn’t how the
ratings are given and to be honest we all have different taste. Nevertheless,
when all major aspects of the movie are considered I think the rating is fair
and it would definitely had scored more if the story was better. It’s no
masterpiece but we weren’t expecting one anyway.
